We got the kiddies dressed up and headed over to my sister's house just down the block. I didn't expect Atticus to do much trick-or-treating as he had a total melt down at home before we left when mom got the candy ready. I was sure at the first house we went to he'd want to eat the candy right away and throw a big fit and we'd have to pick him up and take his screaming self home.
Surprise!!
He marched his little self to more than 20 houses, stuck his little pumpkin pail out, collected his candy, and marched his little self to the next door. His pail was so full I thought for sure he'd want me to carry it (or him), but he didn't. He looked so sweet and I was so proud of how brave and sure of himself he was (although he did look twice at a witch we encountered along the way).
Atticus was a dog (his favorite thing other than a ball, but I couldn't find a ball costume) and Dillon was a teddy bear (the sweetest, softest, most precious teddy I've ever seen). Dill's costume had a little chin strap that happened to hold his soother in place so he rode happily in the stroller along behind with his big brother.
At my sister's house with her 3 boys and their friend (Aaron and Tyson were motor-cross racers, Ethan was the Phantom of the Opera - great costumes, boys!). Atticus was a bit unsure of the clown costume, Dill didn't mind. Atticus got a big haul of candy, but it didn't stop him from snitching from his cousin the elephant (Jared) as a little kitty (Ayda) sat nearby.
This is our new neighbour, and he let Atticus take as much candy as he wanted.
When I was a kid the BEST, and I do mean the BEST, house to trick-or-treat at was #385 Birch Crescent; the Kao's. Mrs. Kao would have many tables set up by the door and they were COVERED with candy. She'd simply tip the table towards our bag and POUR the candy in. Vin and Mr. Kao have met at the park a few times, and since he once lived in Taiwan they have many things to talk about (and in Mandarin!). When we took Atticus and Dillon there yesterday she not only filled up his pail, but she went and got a shopping bag and filled that up for him as well. The Kao's still rock Halloween!!
After all the candy fun we went to my grandma's for her famous popcorn balls. By the time we got home we had 2 very tired boys (did I mention I had the flu and felt like death all day) and 2 very tired parents. But it was such a fun day; I can't wait until next year (maybe I can find a ball costume for Atticus by then).
Happy Halloween!
